$100each

You get $100. So do I.

Starlink pays both of us, as cash or service credit, when you order through my referral link and stay two months. Same price either way.

Look for the green $100 banner on Starlink's page, then finish your order in that same tab. How the $100 works

When Starlink suddenly goes offline, check the app for alerts, then power cycle the router with the power cable unplugged for at least 10 seconds. If that fails, read the router light, inspect the cables, then check the dish's view of the sky. That's Starlink's own order, checked 21 October 2026.

The steps below follow Starlink's Help Center article "Suddenly Offline". Starlink notes they don't apply if you use a third-party router.

1. Check the Starlink app for alerts

Connect to your Starlink Wi-Fi and open the app. If it shows an alert, Starlink's App Alerts FAQ has the fix for each one. If the app shows a cloud icon next to the network name, tap the network name and choose Local to talk to your router directly. If you can't connect to the Starlink Wi-Fi at all, go to step 2.

2. Power cycle the router

  1. Disconnect both ends of the power cable.
  2. Remove power from the power supply.
  3. Leave everything disconnected for at least 10 seconds.
  4. Reconnect everything, then watch the app to see whether things improve.

3. Read the router light

On a Starlink Mini, Starlink says to read this as the device light.

4. Check the cables

Unplug the Starlink cable from power and look it over while it's unplugged: damage, loose connections, kinks, and wear from the weather on the cable and pins. Check any Ethernet adapter or extension too, and try a different port if you have one. Starlink recommends only official Starlink cables, and says you're not covered by its warranty if you use third-party equipment.

5. Check the dish's view of the sky

Run the app's Check for Obstructions tool. Look for trees, buildings or debris in the dish's field of view, and for heavy weather such as snow built up on the dish; Starlink says to clear it gently, and only if it's safe. If the dish was moved recently, make sure it's in a good spot and properly mounted. My obstructions guide covers this step in detail.

The one cause no checklist fixes: power

My roof-mounted dish in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland has stayed up through Chesapeake Bay storms. But the router and dish run on household electricity, so if a storm takes out your power, Starlink goes down with it. If the whole house is dark, that's your outage, not Starlink's. More on that on my storms, snow and ice page.

Not yet loggedI don't keep a downtime log for my own connection yet, so I can't give you numbers on how often or how long it drops. When I start one, it goes here with dates.

Common questions

What people ask me about this

What should I do when Starlink suddenly goes offline?

Starlink's Help Center gives this order: check the Starlink app for alerts; if you can't reach the Starlink Wi-Fi, power cycle the router by unplugging both ends of the power cable and leaving it off for at least 10 seconds; check the router light; inspect the cables; then check the dish's view of the sky.

What does it mean if the Starlink router light is off?

According to Starlink, if the router light is off after a power cycle, try a different outlet. If nothing changes, create a support ticket, because the power supply or router may have failed.

What if the Starlink router light is on but I'm still offline?

Starlink's Help Center says to factory reset the router if problems persist, and if that doesn't resolve it, to create a support ticket because the router has likely failed.

Is there a Starlink promo code or discount?

There is no Starlink coupon code — Starlink does not issue them, and any site advertising one is guessing. The only standing discount is the referral program: order through someone's referral link and you and the person who referred you each get $100 in the US, as cash or service credit. There is no code to type at checkout; the link does it, and Starlink shows a green banner confirming the $100 when the page opens. Mine is https://starlink.com?referral=RC-586189-74623-26 — the price is identical either way. You pay your first month as normal, and the $100 is issued once you have been subscribed for two months.

Does Starlink stop working in a power outage?

Yes, unless you have backup power. The router and dish run on household electricity, so a power cut takes Starlink down even if the satellite link itself is fine.

Check your address on Starlink's site. Ordering through my link gets you $100, as cash or service credit — and I get the same.

Look for the green $100 banner when Starlink's page opens — that confirms the code took. You pay month one as normal; the $100 is issued once you have been subscribed for two months. Finish your order in the same tab — the referral can be lost if you close it and come back later. Here's the full timeline.
